چکیده

Lithium abundances in a selected sample of halo stars have been revised by using the new accurate IRFM effective temperatures by Alonso, Arribas & Mart́ınez-Roger (1996a). From 41 plateau stars (Teff > 5700 and [Fe/H]≤ -1.5) we found no evidence for intrinsic dispersion, a tiny trend with Teff and no trend with [Fe/H]. The trend with the Teff is fully consistent with the standard Li isochrones of Deliyannis, Demarque & Kawaler (1990) implying a primordial value for Li of A(Li)= 2.238 ± 0.0121σ ± 0.05sys . The present results argue against any kind of depletion predicted by diffusion, rotational mixing or stellar winds. Therefore the Li observed in Pop II stars provides a direct and reliable estimate of the baryonic density that can rival other baryonic indicators such as the deuterium in high redshift systems. The present upwards revision of primordial Li in the framework of SBBN gives at 1σ two solutions for the baryonic density: ΩBh 2 = 0.0062 −0.0011 or ΩBh 2 = 0.0146 −0.0033.

NEW DETREMINATION METHOD OF PRIMORDIAL Li ABUNDANCE

We discuss the primordial nucleosynthesis in lepton asymmetric Universe models. In order to better estimate the universal baryonmass density parameter Ωb, we try to remove the uncertainty from the theoretical prediction of primordial Li abundance. We propose a new method to determine the primordial Li by the use of isotopic abundance ratio Li/Li in the interstellar medium which exhibits the min...

Light Element Settling in Main-Sequence Pop II Stars and the Primordial Lithium Abundance

While theoretical computations of the lithium abundances in Pop II stars predict variations from star to star, the most recent observations confirm the existence of a “lithium plateau” with no abundance dispersion. This apparent paradox has to be faced and a solution has to be found before deriving the primordial lithium abundance. In any case lithium 7 has been depleted in these stars by at le...

Element Segregation in Low-metallicity Stars and the Primordial Lithium Abundance

Observational constraints on the primordial lithium abundance are important for the evaluation of the baryonic density of the universe. Its precise determination however suffers from uncertainties due to the possible depletion of this element inside the stars. Here we present and discuss new results on the lithium abundances in Pop II stars obtained with most recent stellar models including the...

Astronomy & Astrophysics The lithium content of the globular cluster NGC 6397 ⋆

We make use of high resolution, high signal-to-noise ratio spectra of 12 turn-off stars in the metal-poor globular cluster NGC 6397 to measure its lithium content. We conclude that they all have the same lithium abundance A(Li) = 2.34 with a standard deviation of 0.056 dex. We use this result, together with Monte Carlo simulations, to estimate that the maximum allowed intrinsic scatter is of th...

Cosmological Deuterium Abundance and the Baryon Density of the Universe

Standard big bang nucleosynthesis (BBNS) promises accurate predictions of the primordial abundances of deuterium, helium-3, helium-4 and lithium-7 as a function of a single parameter. Previous measurements have nearly always been interpreted as confirmation of the model (1). Here we present a measurement of the deuterium to hydrogen ratio (D/H) in a newly discovered high redshift metal-poor gas...

Primordial Lithium and Big Bang Nucleosynthesis.

Recent determinations of the abundance of the light-element Li in very metal-poor stars show that its intrinsic dispersion is essentially zero and that the random error in the estimated mean Li abundance is negligible. However, a decreasing trend in the Li abundance toward lower metallicity indicates that the primordial abundance of Li can be inferred only after allowing for nucleosynthesis pro...
